The U.S Senate Committee on banking, housing, and urban affairs is scheduled to conduct a hearing titled, “Oversight of Pilot Programs at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac,” in its open session. Sandra Thompson, Deputy Director, Division of Housing Mission and Goals, Federal Housing Finance Agency; Hugh R. Frater, Interim Chief Executive Officer, Fannie Mae; and Donald H. Layton, Chief Executive Officer, Freddie Mac, will be witnesses to the session. The hearings, scheduled on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, will be webcast live.
Recently, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) announced that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac would be discontinuing their single-family rental (SFR) pilot programs. While making this announcement, FHFA Director Melvin Watt had said that what was learned as a result of the pilots was that “the larger single-family rental investor market continues to perform successfully without the liquidity provided by the Enterprises.”
