Senate Banking Committee Chairman Names Members of Subcommittees

Senate Banking Committee SubcommitteesU.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Alabama), who was elected chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs earlier this month, has announced the members of the five banking subcommittees for the 114th Congress, according to an announcement from the SBC.

"Subcommittees play an important role in ensuring that the Banking Committee is productive," Shelby said.  "I am confident in the leadership of our subcommittees and look forward to working them in the 114th Congress."

Senator Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) was named chairman of the eight-member Subcommittee on Securities, Insurance, and Investment. Until recently, Crapo was the SBC's ranking member, a position now filled by Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio). Crapo will also serve as a member of two other subcommittees, the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection and the Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development.

Senator Patrick J. Toomey (R-Pennsylvania) will serve as chairman of the eight-member Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection in addition to serving as a member on the Subcommittee for Securities, Insurance, and Investment and the Subcommittee on Economic Policy. Senator Tim Scott (R-South Carolina) was named chairman of the eight-member Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development and will serve on the Subcommittees for Securities, Insurance, and Financial Investment and for Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection.

Senator Dean Heller (R-Nevada) will be the chairman of the six-member Subcommittee on Economic Policy and will serve as a member of the Subcommittees on Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection and for Housing, Transportation, and Community Development. The chairman of the three-member Subcommittee on National Security and International Trade and Finance will be Mark Kirk (R-Illinois), who will also serve on the Subcommittees for Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection and for Securities, Insurance, and Investment.

According to the SBC's announcement, Shelby will be an ex-officio, non-voting member on all five subcommittees. Click here to see a list of all the SBC subcommittee assignments.
