The States With the Most Foreclosure Filings

Foreclosure Three BHAfter Tuesday’s CoreLogic May 2016 National Foreclosure Report was released, it showed foreclosure inventory as well as completed foreclosures continued to decline in May 2016 from where they stood the prior year in May 2015. In a report in DS News earlier this week, it was noted that despite the decline, the foreclosure rate (1 percent) remains twice that of the national long-term average (0.5 percent). CoreLogic attributed this to the individual rates on a state level.

For a look at the foreclosure rates on a month-by-month basis, data from RealtyTrac reported that foreclosure filings decreased by 6.3 percent nationally from May to June. With individual state level foreclosure rates causing the current national rate to remain two times that of the long-term average rate, these are the 10 states that had the highest foreclosure rates in June ranked from lowest to highest.

10. New Mexico:
According to BankRate, 1 in every 1,141 housing units received a foreclosure filing. Additionally, change in filings from May went down by 9.56 percent.

9. South Carolina:
For South Carolina, it was shown that 1 in every 1,082 housing units received a foreclosure filing and change in filings from May decreased 13.33 percent.

8. Rhode Island:
1 in every 1,288 housing units in Rhode Island received a foreclosure filing. It was also shown that change in filings from May went up by 4.14 percent.

7. Ohio:
In Ohio, 1 in every 989 housing units received a foreclosure filing. The change in filings from May decreased 1.2 percent.

6. Nevada:
Nevada reported 1 in every 928 housing units received a foreclosure filing and change in filings from May fell 8.33 percent.

5. Illinois:
For Illinois, 1 in every 883 housing units received a foreclosure filing. Change in filings from May also fell, dropping 0.6 percent.

4. Delaware:
Delaware has reported 1 in every 806 housing units received a foreclosure filing as well as change in filings from May decreasing 11.15 percent

3. Florida:
In Florida, 1 in every 769 housing units received a foreclosure filing. Also change in filings from May show a decrease of 4 percent.

2. Maryland:
In the second to largest report of foreclosure filings, 1 in every 648 housing units received a filing in Maryland. Change in filings from May did increase 7.05 percent.

1. New Jersey:
New Jersey hold the most foreclosure filings with 1 in every 510 housing units having received a foreclosure filing. Additionally, change in filings from May rose 9.54 percent.
