The initial moratorium, which applies to owner-occupied residential loans in all M&I markets for customers who agree to reach a successful repayment agreement, was announced December 18, 2008, as part of the company's Homeowner Assistance Program.

The Homeowner Assistance Program includes initiatives to support potentially distressed homeowners, such as a foreclosure abatement program that includes refinancing options that extend loan terms and reduce interest rates in order to lower borrowers' monthly payments.

According to a recent statement from the company, M&I also continues to provide credit opportunities to new and existing customers.

The bank has extended more $8.9 billion in new credit, since it received a capital infusion from the U.S. Treasury in mid-November 2008.
