SIGTARP Announces Christy Romero as Inspector General

Christy L. Romero was sworn in as Special Inspector General of ""SIGTARP"":http://www.sigtarp.gov/ Monday. Romero was nominated by President Barack Obama on February 1, 2012 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 29, 2012.

In her new role, Romero will lead SIGTARP's investigations of fraud, waste, and abuse in connection with the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), the Treasury program designed to provide taxpayer support to the U.S. financial services industry and housing market amid the 2008 economic crisis. Romero will also lead SIGTARP's oversight and audits of TARP.

Prior to her recent appointment, Romero served as Deputy Special Inspector General for SIGTARP since February 2011. Other roles she held within SIGTARP include Chief of Staff, Acting Deputy Special Inspector General, and Acting Special Inspector General.

Before joining SIGTARP, Romero worked at the SEC.

Romero earned a bachelor's degree in business from Old Dominion University and a J.D. from Brigham Young University Law School.
