Inventory Levels Continue to Improve in Florida

Florida's housing market had more new listings, an increase in median prices, and an uptick in inventory in May, according to Florida Realtors. Completed sales of single-family homes totaled 23,013 across the state, an increase of 3.6 percent over the May 2013 figure.

Bank Collapses Continue to Grow; Failures Total 11

The list of 2014 bank collapses grew into the double digits over the weekend as River Valley Bancorp was forced to close two of its subsidiary operations. In separate releases issued Friday, FDIC announced the shuttering of Valley Bank branches in Moline, Illinois, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, bringing the 2014 bank failure tally to 11 so far.

Investment Fraud Scheme Nets 27 Months in Prison

Marvin Solis of Richmond, California was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison and ordered to pay restitution for an investment fraud scheme perpetuated against family members. According to the Office of the Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP), Solis pled guilty to two counts of wire fraud as a result of the scheme.

Colorado Delinquency Rates Fall in First Quarter

Serious mortgage delinquencies fell in Colorado from the fourth quarter of 2013 to the first quarter of 2014, according to the Colorado Division of Housing. Mortgage delinquencies of 90 days or more fell to 1.3 percent in the first quarter, down from 1.5 percent to close out 2013.

Ocwen to Pay $3.7M to Massachusetts Homeowners

Ocwen, the nation's fourth largest mortgage servicer, has agreed to pay $3.7 million to resolve allegations that it failed to give notice to homeowners, and that the company unlawfully foreclosed on properties in Massachusetts. The announcement came from the state's Attorney General Martha Coakley, who alleged the non-bank servicer failed to follow Massachusetts law when handling certain mortgage loans.

Florida Man Charged in $76 Million Fraud Scheme

Leonard Potillo of Longwood, Florida has been charged in a 33-count indictment for wire fraud, bribing a bank official, and unlawful monetary transactions. Potillo is charged with operating an alleged $76 million fraud scheme involving the purchase and sale of delinquent debt portfolios from banks, according to the Office of the Special Inspector General for the Trouble Asset Relief Program (SIGARP).
