Week Ahead: Case-Shiller Home Price Index

On Tuesday, September 26, the Case-Shiller Home Price Index for July will be released, which is the industry benchmark for the current rate of home prices across the country on a national level, a 20-city composite, and a 10-city composite. In the face of increasing home prices and constricted inventory, experts await July’s numbers to see if the trend of home price appreciation will continue.

June’s data, released in August, reported a 5.8 percent gain in home prices, which was a small increase from the month prior at 5.7 percent. The 20-city composite showed a 5.7 percent increase year-over-year, and the 10-city composite posted a 4.9 percent year-over-year increase despite a 0.1 percent drop from the year before.

The July Case-Shiller Home Price Index will be released at 10 a.m. EDT on Tuesday.
