ALAW, full-service creditor's rights law firm representing institutional and private lenders in several southern states, has expanded into North Carolina with the opening of a new Charlotte office, according to an announcement from the firm.

The firm also announced the hiring of Joe Thompson as managing attorney to oversee operations at the new Charlotte location. Thompson’s primary focus is in real estate, which includes residential and commercial closings for buyers, sellers, lenders, and developers.

Thompson’s extensive litigation experience in the mortgage servicing industry includes representing national financial institutions, general lender counsel, and one of the Carolinas’ largest real estate developers. Thompson is an active member of both the North Carolina Bar and South Carolina Bar.

“The expansion into North Carolina is an important step forward in ALAW’s strategic growth plan into key markets where attorneys admitted to the state bar must be present or involved in closings,” said Jonathan Sawyer, Partner at ALAW. “We are also fortunate to welcome Joe Thompson to oversee operations in Charlotte. Joe’s tremendous legal experience and considerable local knowledge are key in providing clients with best in class service from day one.”

ALAW was founded as Albertelli Law in 1997 by James E. Albertelli. With the opening of the Charlotte office, the firm now has “brick and mortar” offices in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Texas.  ALAW’s REO, Title, and Closing Division is certified to comply with the 7 Best Practice Standards of the American Land Title Association (ALTA) Best Practices, and exceeds ISO27002 benchmark standards for business processes, IT controls, and data security.
