FSC pic [1]The best in the real estate and mortgage servicing industries will come together for the preeminent business growth and educational opportunity this week at the 12th Annual Five Star Conference and Expo [2], taking place September 16 to 18 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas.

This year's conference will include a keynote address from former FDIC Chairman Sheila Bair, a performance from country music star Wynonna Judd, an appearance from Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, seven Five Star Labs (including the all-new Single-Family Rental Lab) presented by experts in the real estate and mortgage industries from all over the country, and endless networking opportunities.

"The Five Star Institute does a great job of addressing the tough issues of our time and advocating on behalf of the mortgage servicing industry," said EVP of Mortgage Services at BankUnited, Ray Barbone, who will be honored with the Five Star Lifetime Achievement Award during the conference. "Those issues will be the topic of conversations and presentations at this year’s conference and should not be missed. The leaders and change agents of our industry will be there both sharing their vision for the future and conducting business. The timing could not be better as we build our business plans for next year and beyond."

It will be the mortgage industry's largest event of the year. In addition to the industry-leading education, Five Star's groups such as the Legal League 100, Title and Closing Coalition, National Appraisal Congress, National Mortgage Servicing Association and FORCE will also convene.

"We are proud to present the Five Star Conference and Expo for the 12th consecutive year," Five Star President and CEO Ed Delgado said. “Even as we enter a period of stability, our industry continues to face challenges that require meaningful dialogue in order to achieve solutions.  We look forward to three days of progress and growth."

Subjects covered in the Labs will be Single-Family Rentals, Foreclosures, Investment Strategies, Compliance, Property Management, REO, and Servicing, and will be directed by the nation's top executives in their respective fields.

Keys for Life [3]

On Thursday night, September 17, Five Star will celebrate and honor the U.S. military with the Military Heroes Keys for Life event, which will include the donation of mortgage-free homes to wounded veterans. The event will include an extended performance from Wynonna and a presentation from Tony Romo. Five Star has partnered with various non-profit organizations over the last four years to provide approximately $4 million worth of homes to service members; at last year's FSC, six mortgage-free homes were presented to wounded veterans.

Friday will feature the Third Annual Women in Housing Leadership Forum, during which attendees will have the opportunity to hear from female trailblazers in the real estate and mortgage industries and the important lessons they have learned during their careers. Speakers will include Mary Frances Burleson, CEO of Ebby Halliday Real Estate; Kathryn Madison, CEO of HSBC Finance; and Kathleen Malone, SVP of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, with a keynote address from the Honorable Sheila Bair, who was Chairman of the FDIC from 2006 to 2011.

"For women, understand that finance is still a male-dominated industry," Bair said in the September 2015 issue of MReport magazine [4]. "Just go into it understanding that you're going to have to be better than others. Don't get hung up on that. Just accept it. Do your homework. Hone your arguments. Demand that you be heard in a meeting."
