Detroit Attorney Named One of DBusiness Magazine’s ’30 in Their Thirties’

DBusiness Magazine 30 in Their 30s Neil ShermanDetroit-based attorney Neil Sherman has been named one of DBusiness Magazine's 30 in Their Thirties for 2014.

Sherman, 38, is the VP and managing attorney for default services firm Schneiderman & Sherman, a position he has held since 2008. Sherman also serves as president of Best Homes Title Agency, a company he created with his law partner, Peter Schneiderman, in 2008 to service the real estate and mortgage banking needs of its legal clients.

"Our hope was if we could reinvest in the title company the revenue we were generating off of our firm, we would be able to develop a thriving title company as we came out of the recession," Sherman said.

Best Homes Title Agency began with four employees in one location, averaging 200 transactions per month six years ago to 75 employees in 12 Michigan locations averaging 1,000 transactions per month. Sherman said Best Homes has gained a competitive advantage due to its use of paperless document preparation and emergency data recovery capabilities. The One Stop Real Estate division for Best Homes electronically records deeds with the Oakland County, Michigan register of deeds. Sherman said he would consider expanding Best Homes to other states if the right opportunity presented itself, but for now he plans to expand the business within the state of Michigan.

"This industry begins and ends with customer service," Sherman said. "Our investment in technology and (our) ability to meet federal and state compliance standards get passed on to our customers."

DBusiness Magazine's 2014 class of 30 in Their Thirties "manages global businesses, oversees major events, operates upscale restaurants, and forges ahead with the latest technological advances," according to its web site. This is not the first time Sherman was recognized by a major Detroit publication for his business achievements; in 2010, he was named to the Crain's Detroit Business "40 under 40" list. Sherman is currently serving a four-year term as one of eight Advisory Board Members for the Legal League 100, a nationwide consortium comprised of 100 default servicing and financial services law firms providing a results-driven, go-to resource for the industry's decision makers.
