USFN Hosts Loan Management & Servicing Seminar

More than 300 attendees gathered at the InterContinental New Orleans June 3-5 to participate in the Loan Management & Servicing Seminar presented by ""USFN—America’s Mortgage Banking Attorneys"":http://www.usfn.org. The event featured over 20 informative sessions, open forum roundtable discussions, and an awards presentation that honored standouts in the servicing arena.
Seminar sessions covered a host of topics currently affecting the mortgage servicing industry, but those that focused around changing REO and eviction practices proved to be the most popular among attendees. As the nation continues to face an unprecedented rate of foreclosures, participants were particularly interested in learning how to efficiently and properly facilitate REO and eviction processes, which have been affected by the new federal Protecting Tenants at Foreclosure Act. Also in high demand were the sessions covering federal and state legislative updates, as well as sessions on title insurance challenges and remedies.
USFN President Rick Rothfuss, who is also president of Lerner, Sampson & Rothfuss, serving Ohio and Kentucky, commented, ""In what has been an especially challenging time for the economy, the pace of the state and federal legislative changes has been of great concern to our industry. The sessions were the perfect platform to keep attendees informed and prepared to address legal changes as they arise.""
A highlight of the seminar was the recognition by Rothfuss of two outstanding industry professionals, honored for their significant contributions to the mortgage servicing industry at large and to their ongoing assistance to USFN in the development of information used at its educational seminars.
The USFN Mortgage Servicing Leadership Award was presented to Adam Womack, servicing manager at Fannie Mae, in recognition of his exemplary standards of service and dedication to the industry. The USFN Ambassador Award, newly created this year, honored Cambridge Place Investment Management’s Jason Bourdeau as the first recipient, citing his willingness to contribute time, knowledge, and leadership to the efforts of the industry as a whole and to USFN’s seminar sessions on numerous occasions.
One of USFN's past seminars was held in New Orleans just a few weeks before Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the region. Returning to the city this year presented a unique opportunity for attendees to participate in USFN’s first-ever community service project. Responding to local need, 50 USFN volunteers reserved time in their schedule to join forces with the American Red Cross Southeast Louisiana Chapter as they worked to assemble over 330 comfort kits that will be delivered to families impacted by a disaster.
Alberta Hultman, executive director and CEO of USFN, commented, ""It was a meaningful experience to witness the outpouring of support by our attendees for those affected by continuing challenges faced by the residents of New Orleans. The experiences shared at these events, both on a professional and community involvement level, are a testament to the incredible members and attendees that take part in our organization and events.""
USFN’s ongoing seminar series continues with its ""Legal Issues in Mortgage Servicing Seminar"":http://www.usfn.org/Content/NavigationMenu/SEMINARSTRAININGEVENTS/2009LegalIssuesSeminar/default.htm, which will be held July 9-10, 2009 in Chicago, Illinois.
