The agency announced its launch Thursday and will use the platform to collect and share inventive practices in affordable housing, community development, and urban planning in the U.S. and abroad.

""Innovation of the Day is a tool to form partnerships and invite new and bold ideas to stimulate uncommon solutions to our everyday problems,"" said HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan. ""As an organization, HUD is embracing innovation that can have a profound and lasting impact in unexpected and exciting ways.""

The platform will integrate the collected ideas and aims to analyze emerging trends, issues, and solutions, which can then be taken from the field to the federal level.

The new platform includes a submission form and an innovations database that is open to the public. The site will highlight noteworthy innovations submitted.

HUD will also host an Innovation Summit this winter to bring thinkers and experts
together to share ideas.
