For the third consecutive quarter, mortgage critical defect rates declined, as ACES Quality Management notes lenders should focus on the deteriorating quality in the core underwriting categories in the coming months.

“After last quarter’s historic high of 2.47%, the reduction in Q4’s critical defect rate to a sub-2% level is encouraging and illustrates just how much the precipitous drop in origination volumes impacted lending operations,” said ACES EVP Nick Volpe.

ACES Quality Management has released the findings of its latest Industry Trends Report for the second quarter of 2022, which found that the overall critical defect rate increased 6% compared to Q1 and crossed the 2% threshold for the third time in report history.
