Home Price Increases Decelerate Again

One of the country's leading home price measures continued to push up in May, though gains have now slowed to a single-digit annual pace. CoreLogic reported an 8.8 percent year-over-year increase in its May Home Price Index (HPI), marking 27 straight months of annual improvement. As of the latest report, half of all states and the District of Columbia are now at or within 10 percent of their peak home price appreciation.

May Equity Home Sales Continue to Rise in California

Higher home values have continued to fuel more equity home sales, making up more than 80 percent of all home sales for the past 11 consecutive months, according to the California Association of Realtors (CAR). The group noted that pending home sales receded slightly in May, as investors pulled out of the market due to higher home prices.

The report noted that the frosty winter left home prices mostly flat, while saturation of distressed homes remained stable at 21.8 percent.

Rising Home Prices Shrink California Distressed Sales

The California Association of Realtors (CAR) released a new report, revealing sales of distressed homes have plummeted in the past five years. In January, 2009, 69.5 percent of all homes sold in California were distressed, which included short sales and real estate-owned properties (REO). The report issued Monday noted that five years later, distressed home sales made up only 15.6 percent of sold homes.
