A snapshot of August’s existing-home sales data revealed that available months of inventory increased to 3.3 while median sales prices topped $407,000.

July marked the first month-over-month decline in home sales since earlier this year in April, a signal that may mark the peak has passed for the typically busy summer buying season.

NAR reports that existing-home sales recorded a slight gain of 0.2% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.3 million units.

"The housing sector continues to undergo an adjustment due to the continuous rise in interest rates" said Lawrence Yun, Chief Economist of NAR. "Expensive regions of the country are especially feeling the pinch and seeing larger declines in sales."
