The MBA reports that the share of mortgage loans in forbearance fell to 0.44% nationwide in June, with nearly 80% of that total citing pandemic-related reasons for their forbearance.

With nearly 320,000 U.S. homeowners in forbearance plans, the MBA reports that servicers’ portfolio forbearance volume dropped by six basis points month-over-month in January.

For the third consecutive month, the nation’s forbearance rate has remained relatively flat, with new forbearance requests and re-entries being reported at nearly the same pace as exits.

The MBA reports that the share of U.S. loans in forbearance fell to 0.85% in May. However, the report cautious that pressure may be placed on those in workout options due to inflation and a rise in rates.

With nearly 470,000 nationwide currently in forbearance plans, strong employment numbers are helping homeowners regain their financial footing despite lingering inflationary concerns.
