While overall U.S. mortgage performance remained strong in June, Molly Boesel, Principal Economist for CoreLogic, notes that the impact from recent weather disasters will likely see impacted regions increase in the months to come.

“February’s early-stage delinquency rate was historically low and primarily driven by a strong job market,” said Molly Boesel, Principal Economist at CoreLogic. “However, the possibility of a recession that would raise the U.S. unemployment rate could slightly erode the current strong mortgage performance situation in the coming months.”

Nationwide, the overall delinquency rate dropped for the 18th consecutive month on an annual basis, as CoreLogic reports that approximately 1.4 million loans nationwide were in some stage of delinquency.

“The share of U.S. borrowers who are six months or more late on their mortgage payments fell to a two-year low in August and was less than one-third of the pandemic high recorded in February 2021,” said Molly Boesel, Principal Economist at CoreLogic.
