The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Housing Counseling revealed that the millions in available grants will help expand housing counseling services and provide comprehensive financial literacy, homeownership, and affordable housing support to underserved communities.

The Federal Housing Finance Agency has announced the acceptance of membership applications for its Advisory Committee on Affordable, Equitable, and Sustainable Housing to discuss a wide range of housing topics, including fair lending, fair housing, civil rights, single- and multifamily lending, and community advocacy.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced a 12% increase in Fair Market Rents across the U.S., in addition to making $113 million available in Housing Choice Vouchers to public housing agencies to help families meet rising housing costs.

“Investing in our Tribal communities is essential. HUD is committed to ensure support, so these communities have access to essential resources.” said HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge. “The purpose of these grants is to create more equitable outcomes for Tribal residents.”

“HUD recognizes that cities are in need of revitalization across the country,” said HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge. “We want to support city governments in their efforts to restore economically crucial business districts by providing housing in these areas.”

The Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), spoke about the FHFA and the FHLBanks at the 2017 Federal Home Loan Bank Directors’ Conference Tuesday. Mel Watt began with positive news about FHLBank performance and lead into the four main regulatory issues he would like to focus on. He stressed that the FHFA will carry out all work in a transparent manner.

On Tuesday, the Trump administration announced its proposed 2018 budget. Included in the budget are several cuts to Department of Housing and Urban Development programs, including cutting the funding to the Community Development Block Grant Program, as well as the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative, HOME Investment Partnerships Program, and the Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program.
