A judge in the U.S. District Court for Northern Illinois has granted plaintiffs class certification in an antitrust suit against NAR that challenges home sellers paying the commissions of real estate agents representing homebuyers.

“Home sales activity looks to be bottoming out in the first quarter of this year, before incremental improvements will occur,” said NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun.

However, while monthly numbers show a short-term improvement, the National Association of Realtors found the market to be down nearly 25% year-over-year.

Reduction in MIP will result in an estimated savings of $678 million for American families by the end of 2023, and benefit an estimated 850,000 borrowers over the coming year, saving them an average of $800 annually.

According to the National Association of Realtors, the average price of a home rose to $378,700 in the fourth quarter of 2022.
