The MBA reports that approximately 255,000 homeowners remained in forbearance plans through April, as mortgage servicers have provided forbearance options to nearly 7.8 million Americans since April 2020.

With nearly 320,000 U.S. homeowners in forbearance plans, the MBA reports that servicers’ portfolio forbearance volume dropped by six basis points month-over-month in January.

With nearly 470,000 nationwide currently in forbearance plans, strong employment numbers are helping homeowners regain their financial footing despite lingering inflationary concerns.

Improvements in the nation’s jobs numbers have increased the number of forbearance exits as estimated total of just one million homeowners remain in forbearance plans.
