McCalla Raymer to Buy Assets from Prommis Holdings

McCalla Raymer, a provider of legal services to the mortgage banking industry, reached an agreement with Prommis Holdings to purchase some of the assets that currently support the non-legal support functions of the firm. Prommis filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on March 18. The agreement is subject to bankruptcy court approval and is expected to close in the next few weeks, Atlanta-based McCalla Raymer announced.

Prommis Holdings Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

Prommis Holdings Inc., along with 10 of its affiliates, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware. Bloomberg first reported the story Monday and revealed the company listed debt of more than $50 million and assets of as much as $50 million in the filed documents. Prommis provides technology-enabled processing services for the default resolution sector of the mortgage industry.

LPS and Prommis Respond to Allegations of Illegal Fee-Splitting

The housing crisis has brought with it a barrage of lawsuits, many of which are taking direct aim at the practices of default servicing firms. One such case filed in a U.S. bankruptcy court in Mississippi names Prommis Solutions and the default services arm of Lender Processing Services (LPS) as defendants. The lawsuit alleges the firms are taking part in a fee-splitting arrangement for services provided to mortgage lenders through LPS' attorney network. Both companies are standing their ground that the case lacks merit and misrepresents their services.
