Servicers Name Property Preservation as Biggest Challenge With FHA Loans

Mortgage professionals involved with the servicing of Federal Housing Administration (FHA) mortgage loans said the biggest challenge they face with those loans is "fulfillment of FHA property preservation and conveyance requirements," according to the February 2015 Mortgage Industry Outlook Report released Monday by The Collingwood Group and The Five Star Institute. Thirty-nine percent of survey respondents who service FHA loans for their respective companies said that fulfilling fulfilling property preservation requirements was their toughest challenge.

Fair Housing Group Broadens Discrimination Complaint Against BofA

The National Fair Housing Alliance announced the fourth amendment of its discrimination complaint against Bank of America Thursday with the addition of five new cities. The amended complaint now includes 20 metro areas in which NFHA alleges Bank of America has neglected to maintain and market foreclosed and REO properties in minority neighborhoods. NFHA says it will release even more evidence early next year, but according to BofA, the group's accusations are ""simply untrue.""

FHA Program Offers Financing Solution for Stock of Aging Homes

Seventy-one percent of single-family homes in the United States were built before 1990, according to a new industry report. So far this year, 60 percent of residential transactions involved homes built prior to 1990. This older housing stock comes with less competition from other buyers and lower price points, and the Federal Housing Administration's 203(k) program allows owner-occupants to roll the cost of minor and major renovations into the financing for a home purchase or a mortgage refinancing.
