Virginia Beach-based LenderSecure has increased its total of best-in-class solutions providers to nine with the recent addition of four new partners.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) proposed on Thursday an additional set of measures designed to expand foreclosure protections for mortgage borrowers.

In a letter released earlier this week, Benjamin Lawsky, superintendent of financial services for New York, said an investigation of Ocwen's mortgage servicing practices turned up more than 7,000 letters sent to borrowers that had been backdated and sent only after their payment deadlines had passed.

Looking at compliance challenges, 72 percent of banker respondents listed "maintaining compliance with changing regulations" as one of their top concerns, up from 67 percent at the start of last year, while 69 percent said just keeping track of regulations is a major issue at this point.

A new study by the FDIC found that thanks to a strong agriculture sector, small banks based in rural areas are coping better than expected in the face of a steady exodus of residents. In fact, they’re doing better than metro-based community banks. But how long rural banks will be able to stay strong is a much dodgier question to answer.
