Florida Bill to Speed Foreclosure Passes Through House

In order to clear up the backlog of properties in foreclosure in Florida, a judicial state known for its long foreclosure time frame, a bill was pushed through the state's House to streamline and speed up the process.

The bill, which was introduced by Representative Kathleen Passidomo (R-Naples), passed with a 94-17 vote on Wednesday. The bill includes language allowing not just the lender, but also a lien holder, such as a homeowners association, to initiate the foreclosure process.

The bill also requires the lender to produce all paperwork showing the right to foreclose at the beginning of the process instead of providing paperwork in different stages of the process.
According to a New York Times article, Florida has 360,000 foreclosure cases.

The bill still needs to pass through the Senate, who needs to pass its version March 9.
