AACER: Third-Lowest Monthly Bankruptcy Filings Total of 2015 Reported in August

Bankruptcy filings nationwide totaled 67,712 over 21 filing days for the month of August, the third-lowest monthly total in 2015 and a decline of more than 7,000 from August 2014, according to August 2015 AACER bankruptcy data reported by Epiq Systems. Filings were lower in August 2015 by 7,522 from the previous August. The total of 67,712 for the month was third-lowest this year behind January (59,087) and February (65,054).

AACER: Bankruptcy Filings Up Only Slightly in June Despite Two More Filing Days

Bankruptcy filings in June 2015 experienced only a slight month-over-month increase despite having two more filing days in June than in May, according to June 2015 AACER bankruptcy data reported by Epiq Systems. In June 2015, there were 69,723 total bankruptcy filings, an increase of only 412 (only about half of 1 percent) from May's total of 69,311, despite June having 22 filing days compared to 20 for May.

AACER: Bankruptcy Filings Down Nearly 20 Percent Year-Over-Year in May

In May 2015, there were 69,286 total bankruptcy filings, down from May 2014's total of 85,711. May 2015's total also represented a month-over-month decline from April's total of 77,884, although there were two fewer filing days in May (20) than there were in April (22). Had filings continued at their May rate of 3,464 filings per day for two more days, May's total of filings would have been less than 2,000 fewer than April's.

Both the total bankruptcy filings for April and that average filings per day declined from March in the same number of filing days, continuing a trend that has been ongoing since the height of the financial crisis in 2010, according to April 2015 AACER bankruptcy data reported by Epiq Systems. In April, there were 77,884 total bankruptcy filings, down from March's total of 81,622 in the same number of filing days (22) during the month. April totaled 3,540 filings per day, compared with 3,712 in March.

AACER: Bankruptcy Filings Continue Year-Over-Year Decline, But Rise 10 Percent Monthly

While bankruptcy filings nationwide in February continued their trend of year-over-year decline since the foreclosure crisis peaked in 2010, the number of filings rose slightly from January to February, according to AACER bankruptcy data reported by Epiq Systems. While February featured one fewer filing day than January did (19 compared to 20), bankruptcy filings nationwide totaled 65,002 for February, up from 59, 050 in January (an increase of 10 percent).

AACER: Bankruptcy Filings Continue Five-Year Downward Trend in January

Nationwide bankruptcy filings dropped by more than 13 percent year-over-year in January, continuing a five-year trend, according to AACER bankruptcy data reported by Epiq Systems. The total number of bankruptcies filed in the United States for January was 59,037, marking the fifth January in a row that bankruptcy filings declined year-over-year. January's filing total represented a 13.5 percent decrease from January 2014, when 68,271 bankruptcies were filed, and a decline of 42.6 percent from their highest total for any January, which was 102,835 reached in January 2010.
