IMS Offers Solution to ‘Defective Drywall’

Integrated Mortgage Solutions (IMS) now offers a cost-effective, long-term solution to defective drywall, a problem that has plagued thousands of homes, particularly along the Gulf Coast. The term defective drywall refers to a type of drywall that releases sulfur compounds, especially in warm, moist climates. Salvaging a home with defective drywall required major reconstruction to replace all the drywall in the structure, but IMS now offers an on-location solution that requires about one-third of the time and about one-half of the cost of traditional methods.

Neighborhood Stabilization: A Nationwide Community Effort

Nonprofits across the country are partnering up with lenders and government agencies to minimize neighborhood blight caused by vacant foreclosed properties. The topic was part of the curriculum at the Five Star Default Servicing Conference and Expo, and the panelists found themselves speaking to a full house. Paul Kaboth with the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland started the discussion by stressing that a marketplace strained with high levels of REOs and vacancies will persist for at least another five years.

The National Association of Mortgage Field Services (NAMFS) has teamed up with the REO property preservation firm Field Asset Services, Inc. to provide its members with information on local code enforcement officials and homeowners association (HOA) contacts. The organization's database contains approximately 12,000 code officials and 2,500 HOA contacts nationwide and has been tied to interactive search tools available via the NAMFS website.
